Indian Students in the US Contribute $3.3 Billion to US Economy

According to a recent study cited by NDTV.com, roughly 100,000 Indian students studying in the US generated over $3 billion for the US economy last year. Of 90,000 applicants for US student visas last year, only 4,000 were accepted—a mere 5%. Of these, the US Embassy finds that nearly 80% are students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) disciplines with engineering the clear forerunner followed closely by computer science.

Furthermore, US Ambassador to India Richard Verma states, “Indian students are a great asset to United States universities and colleges. Both countries benefit greatly when our students study and learn together.”
